Overview
This project, inspired by a love for tarot, was born from a desire to create an engaging learning experience that stands apart from the high-pressure, mandatory training programs I often design in my professional work. Through interactive features, thoughtful design, and a focus on the Major Arcana, this eLearning journey offers a relaxed exploration of tarot's wisdom, showcasing my Storyline expertise and highlighting the power of play in the learning process.
Problem
Rather than focusing on a specific business need, this project aimed to push the boundaries of my eLearning design capabilities while sharing a personal passion.
Drawing tarot cards in my spare time has always been a source of relaxation and grounding for me, and I wanted to create an experience that allowed others to discover that same sense of peace and self-reflection.
I challenged myself to implement advanced Storyline features like randomization, variable storage, and custom elements, and also prioritized creating a visually appealing experience by integrating my graphic design and animation skills. Ultimately, I wanted to craft a learning environment that prioritized enjoyment and exploration over rote memorization, inviting learners to connect with the wisdom of the tarot in a meaningful and engaging way.
Solution
To transform this vision into reality, I leveraged Articulate Storyline's capabilities to build an immersive experience. The course blends captivating visuals, intuitive interactions, and thoughtfully crafted features to guide learners on their tarot journey. Key elements of the solution included:
Interactive card draw: A randomized card draw feature adds an element of surprise and personalization, allowing learners to connect with the cards in a unique and organic way.
Custom graphics and animations: Hand-picked and edited assets, a unified color palette, and custom animations elevate the visual appeal, creating a captivating and aesthetically pleasing learning environment.
Printable results page: Learners can save their card draws and insights, providing a tangible takeaway from the experience.
CSS customization: I further modified the published package to ensure a polished and visually appealing final product, enhancing the overall user experience.
Relaxing atmosphere: Gentle background music and calming visuals set a serene tone, inviting learners to unwind and embrace the journey of self-discovery.
Results
While this is a personal project, the feedback from peers has been very positive! Learners have shared that the experience provides an enjoyable and interactive way to learn about tarot, offering a peaceful break from their daily routines. Many have mentioned returning to the course multiple times for repeated card draws and insights, and some have expressed a newfound curiosity to explore tarot further. The project was even featured on Tim Slade's eLearning Designer's Academy, as a demonstration of exemplary work.
On a personal level, this project allowed me to deepen my understanding of Storyline's functionality and capabilities, effectively combine my graphic design and animation skills within an eLearning context, and most importantly, create a learning experience that is both educational and enjoyable.
